This HDTV should be recalled July 14, 2010 Matthew I got this at a great deal in a store around the holidays of 07. I played it smart and registered for the 2 year warranty threw Philips. 2 years and 2 months after i bought this TV it died. The TV first started to go black and randomly turn on and off. Some time after that it would occassionally let out a high pitched screetching sound out of its speakers and shut off. After unplugging it and replugging it back in i would get it to work for a short time when the problem would occur again.
Finally i contact Philips and they said that this models was no longer under warranty and couldn't be replaced or fixed. They suggested to me to take it to a local repair shop to get it fixed...
After doing research online i discovered that im not the only one with this problem. Apparently soon after warranty for many people the TV died. This problem is caused by a faulty part in the TV's motherboard that causes it to fry it completely. The average repair cost i saw online was $200+ which doesn't include labor. So for the first time in my entire life i had to throw away a TV.
If you google this model you will find similar storys and you will wonder why wasn't this model recalled. There is a none defect in this product and Philips refuses to acknowledge it. After this experience i will never buy another HDTV from Philips again. Steer clear of this TV.
Terrible! Do not buy - Stopped working after two years May 14, 2010 Lorenzo (NY, NY) As many other reviewers have noted, the TV was working fine for a year and then started turning itself on and off and making this high-pitched horrible noise everytime it was turned on. The TV would also freeze up in the process.
We also bought a TV/DVD combo (3340V/17) from Philips and the same issue occured. The combo would randomly turn itself on and off and would open and close the DVD holder multiple times before playing. These are terrible products! When I called Philips regarding the issue, the company would not fix it because the one-year warranty had passed. We are now responsible for paying out of pocket for repairs. Given the same consistent issue reported by other users, it is more than likely that there is a defect with these devices.
PIECE OF JUNK March 31, 2010 A. C. Berger (New York, NY) Worked fine for about 18 months and then began having the same problem as so many others have experienced with this model. Upon turning on the set, it began emitting an ear-splitting screeching noise and shutting itself off and on again, over and over, all the while making the nearly unbearable noise. The repair (faulty power board) is as costly as a brand new set. Infuriating that Philips does nothing about this -- these televisions should be recalled.
Don't buy Philips February 24, 2010 sunny one (Tempe, AZ USA) We bought this TV a little more than a year ago for our bedroom. It's worked well up until 3 months ago when we started having problems that many, many others seem to have with Philips TVs (just do a search). When you first turn it on, the sound is terrible - sounds like static and popping. After 20 minutes, the sound is better, but still not clear as it used to be. Additionally, there is a static popping sound that comes occasionally from the back of the TV and it will turn itself off. The only way to get it to come back on is to unplug it for a minute and then plug it back in. Philips support is basically non-existent. Save your money and the environment by buying something that will last more than one year!!
No Clue what the others are talking about January 26, 2010 Bobby Blank (The Swamps of Florida) I bought my TV in the spring of 2007. 2 and a half years later, mine still works as good as the day I bought it. The only problem I've had with it is that the "Phillips" letters started falling off a week after I bought it, and now instead of saying "PHILLIPS" it now reads "ILIP," not really something that has anything to do with the quality of the TV. The HD picture is superb, Blu-ray movies look spectacular, and PS3 games look amazing. The sound quality is still good. Maybe I just got lucky, but as I said, my TV is still as good as the day I bought it.
